About

Thatwillsblog is written by Maria T. Holman, a lawyer in Vancouver, British Columbia, at Webster Hudson Coombe LLP.  Maria focuses her practice on Wills, Estates and Trusts, with an emphasis on Estate Planning for Life.  She enjoys helping her clients create plans that take into account not only their needs for when they die, but also during their life.

Maria thinks estate plans should take into account the client’s needs and desires while they are alive, and not be overly complex, cumbersome or expensive to maintain.

Maria has over 28 years of experience in drawing up wills, trusts and estate plans, helping clients with probate and estate administrations and advising business owners and families about planning for the future.

Her favourite work involves evaluating and reorganizing  her clients’ corporate structures and developing restructuring strategies, especially for succession planning.  She has access to tax expertise from one of Canada’s top tax lawyers.

She helps her clients write their wills for when they die, and  getting the necessary tools in place to help them keep their finances and health care needs on track if they become ill, injured or incapacitated. Those tools include powers of attorney, representation agreements for health care and trusts.

She has written many family trusts, discretionary trusts and alter-ego/joint partner trusts for clients. She can also help you with all aspects of estate planning, from advising about wills, dealing with tricky issues like blended families, dependents with disabilities and preserving disability benefits for those dependents, wealth preservation and minimization of taxes.

In thatwillsblog, we write about the latest developments in the laws surrounding wills, trusts, taxes and estate planning, and in particular we explain how to avoid being one of the cases that we write about here.

Keep in mind that what we write about is meant as general information, and that no two situations are the same.  There really is no such thing as a “simple” will or estate. People are complex creatures and wow do we know how to complicate our lives! We are here to help you un-complicate your estate.
